+62 News, JAKARTA — Indonesia once again commemorates National Sports Day, or Hari Olahraga Nasional Haornas, on September 9, 2026. This year marks the 43rd Haornas with the theme “Sports for All, A Stronger Indonesia”.
September 9 was chosen to remember two important events in 1948: Indonesia’s first participation in the London Olympics and the first National Sports Week, or Pekan Olahraga Nasional PON I, in Surakarta.

Theme and Policy Direction for 2026
The Ministry of Youth and Sports, Kemenpora, has set 3 main pillars for Haornas 2026:
1. Sports for Health – Encouraging people to be active for at least 30 minutes every day
2. Sports for Achievement – Strengthening athlete development ahead of the SEA Games and the 2028 Olympics
3. Sports for Economy – Developing the sports industry and tourism based on sport tourism
The “Ayo Aktif Bergerak” or “Let’s Get Active” campaign was launched to invite all levels of society to make exercise part of their lifestyle.
Activities at National and Regional Levels
The peak of Haornas 2026 celebrations will be held at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta. The event lineup includes a 5K fun walk, mass exercise with 10,000 participants, a sports UMKM exhibition, and a traditional sports festival.
In the regions, provincial and district/city governments are holding similar activities. These include car-free day sports events, inter-village tournaments, running races, and health-related social services.
Schools, universities, and communities are also organizing sports weeks for students and people with disabilities.
Statement from the Minister of Youth and Sports
The Minister of Youth and Sports stated that sports must be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, gender, and background.
“Equitable and affordable sports facilities are key. We invite regional governments, the private sector, and the public to build more public spaces for exercise,” he said.
Conclusion
Haornas 2026 is expected to serve as a reminder that sports are not only for athletes. With regular exercise, the people of Indonesia are expected to be healthier, more productive, and able to compete globally.
